Button? NO!

My boy does not like to wear button shorts or pants. I can't blame him. Buttons are hard to unbutton in a hurry. So what is a mom to do when our school clothes have buttons? Well, this mom cuts off the button, adds a snap, and resews the button on the front... Problem solved :)

Another RePurpose for a T-Shirt

I have a few shirts that I love but I do not wear anymore. My youngest is outgrowing her summer clothes. So, I decided to turn my shirt into a dress for her. I originally planned to make this like a pillow case dress using ribbon. However, when I saw this dress (make it and love it), I changed how I was going to make the straps. I used the 5 braided pieces for a collar instead. This shirt is now a comfy dress for my youngest.

Dress Change Up

I found this dress in the back of my closet. It was one of my favorite dresses when I was a teacher before kids. I love the material. I was not in love with the length anymore. So, what does one do with scissors and a sewing machine? That is right! I put it on to decide how short I wanted it - just above the knee please - and cut. I then re-hemmed it. I also wanted it to be a little more fitted so I added elastic a princess waist. The best part is...no money spent for a new look!
The cut off material I used to make a little skirt for my 1 yr old daughter.

Headband - From Re-purposed TShirt

Little Miss Momma challenged her readers to wear a headband for a week. I usually do not wear headbands because they do not stay put my hair. However, I decided I would do this. I made a new one that is braided using 5 strips of soft, stretchy material from an old shirt of mine using this tutorial. (Great job Make It and Love It). I love this headband! It is super comfy and it stays in! I think I may need to make a few more in different colors.

I did wear a few other headbands during the week, but this was my fave.

I will be linking this post to Little Miss Momma and Fix It Up Fridays @ Blessings Overflowing.

Mission: Organize Basement

Have I mentioned the super hot, humid days we have been having? My goal was to make the basement more kid friendly so we could actually play. Yes, it had toys but they were everywhere.
We couldn't even sit on our futon. It was covered.
Boxes were ready to fall.

But now.....The futon is a place where we can sit. Toys now have homes in rubbermaid containers or fabric covered diaper boxes which will be labeled with words and pictures to make clean up easier.

Now we have room to play.

Where did a lot of the stuff go? Did I mention I donated at least 8 boxes of toys and stuff, threw away 2 huge bags of trash, and shredded another smaller bag of old papers.

Covered Boxes

Yes, I am cute and I did this!

After picking up this mess one time to many, I wanted to store our kid dvds and games in the cabinet. I found a use for the empty diaper boxes - Storage! The boxes fit on the shelves in our cabinet. I cut off the top flaps of the box and covered the box in material. An easy, no sew project.
